There are many reasons for their revolt against British some of them like
Indian soldiers though were very talented and brave were not given high ranks they were kept till rank if subedar

It was because of the Enfield Rifle. The soldiers had to bite the cartilages in order to load the rifle. The cartilages were coated with grease paper in order to protect it from water. It was made up of pig fat which was a taboo for Indians. And this led to the revolt.
