why didn't the leaders who fought for freedom wanted India to be ruled by kings and queens?

Freedom is to live free, think free, be free and do things freely. If that were to be the case, the idea of fighting for your own freedom is lost. To put that into perspective, imagine trying to be free under 551 princely domains before Independence. It is freedom with a cage. And if you were to be rules by a King or a Queen, then a common man would never be able to get to the highest position possible, as the hierarchy would favour the progeny of Kings and Queens.
