Why do alkanes not react with common laboratory reagents?

Ther are two ways that alkanesnot react with the laboratory reagents:

1) because they are poor acids.

2) and they are lack of nonbonded electrons pairs o either the carbon or hydrogen atoms make alkanes poor base.
