Why do aquatic animals have a faster rate of breathing as compared to Terrestrial animals?

they breath through gills so the water goes easily into the body and the oxygen get directly separated to water while terrestrial animals mostly have double blood circulatory system which makes us to have smaller rate of breathing than aquatic animals
