the cells of onion contain water so when the onion peel is placed water the process if osmosis does not take do the onion peel not burst

When kept in hypotonic solution the RBCs burst easily because they are animalcells and do not possess cell wall, while the RBC burst when kept in onion peelpossess cell wall which makes it resistant to the bursting due to swelling caused by endosmosis.
