Conductive when liquid - ions are charged particles, but ionic compounds can only conduct electricity if their ions are free to move. So ionic compounds do not conduct electricity when they aresolid, but they do conduct electricitywhen they are dissolved in water or when they are melted.

Ionic compounds conduct electricity with the help of free ions but in case of a solid the ions of ionic compounds are strongly bounded by an electrostatic force therefore they are not free to move and hence they cannot conduct electricity but in the case of aqua solution the arms of the ionic compound are free to move and hence forth they can conduct electricity
