why do ionic compounds have high melting point​

Ionic compounds have high melting points because in ionic compounds , the atoms are held together in there positions by strong electrostatic forces which cannot be broken easily. Hence, to break an ionic compound a high temperature is required , therefore ionic compounds have high melting point.

Answer:Ionic compounds are the ones which has both positive and negative charges. Hence there will be strong force of attraction between them. This make expenditure of lot of heat to break this force of attraction hence ionic compounds have high melting points
