Why do magnets with the same pole repel each other?

because same poles of magnet produces same repulsion force towards each other where as different poles produces more attractive and less repulsive force

it is exactly same  as attraction and repulsion force between a boy and girl

When two magnets are placed with their likepoles facing each other, the lines of force are in opposite directions and hence likepoles repel each other. When the unlikepoles of a bar magnet face each other the magnetic lines of force are in the samedirection and hence unlike poles attracteach other.
