because in an ecosystem the food chains are as followed
PRODUCERS---PRIMARY CONSUMERS---SECONDARY CONSUMERS---TERITIARY CONSUMERS.

1)The energy transfer goes on decreases from step to step.
2)So less energy is received to the top carnivore.
3)This may lead to extinction of top carnivores.
