Why do plants need to use active transport to absorb mineral ions from the soil?

because the concentration of minerals and salts in the soil is low than compared to the plnats body.... And plants absorb these minerals in order to maimtain the balance within it... And so to do that it requires energy to take up the minerals and salts against the concentration gradient.
