Explanation:

The twinkling of stars is

explained by the phenomenon called atmospheric refraction. Light from the stars undergoes multiple refraction while passing through the layers of air before reaching an observer's eye. The point source of light (star) appear to be multiple because of deviation of actual path of light to multiple other paths. This apparent multiple source of light blinks to cause twinkling of stars.

Answer:

The twinkling of star is due to the atmospheric refraction of starlight. The starlight, on entering the earth's atmosphere, undergoes refraction continuously before it reaches the earth. Since the are very distant, they approximate point sized sources of light. As the path of rays of light coming from the star goes on varying slightly, the apparent position of the star fluctuates and amount of starlight entering the eye flickers, which is the twinkling effect.
