to reduce the impulse.
impulse= force × time.
impulse is directly proportional to time.

hey mate here is your answer ___:-)

when the ball reaches the fielder, it hits his hands with some impulse. Impulse is the amount of force on a body applied for a moment of time.
1. F be the force
2. dt be the time for which the force is applied.

I= F*dt.

according to Newton’s laws of motion

F=m*a
1. m is the mass
2. a is the acceleration due to gravity.

F=m*dv/dt

F*dt=m*dv

So to reduce the force with which the ball hits the hands of a fielder, the change in velocity of the ball should be spread over a period of time. Thus, by following the ball down, a fielder reduces the velocity slowly. By this, the fielder avoids any injuries.
