Meditation makes us calm and peaceful. it helps us relax and that is why we are able to think, do or react to things more effectively.
Suppose tomorrow is your exam and you are terrified. now will you be able to think about things like daily-routine, positivity etc. No that's only possible when your mind is at peace, which can be attained if you meditate.
people in depress have a very tensed mind. they are not in peace. which is the reason they are not able to think normally and tend to overreact in small situations.
If a depressed person does meditation, he/she will be able to clear his/her path from the obstacles and regain his/her Normal self.
