A major burn is also referred to as a third degree burn.
It burns through the epidermis and top layers of the skin.
As soon as it penetrates, the nerve endings in the area of the burn are also burned out and left completely damaged.
Since nerves carry sensations, their destruction leads to a stop to all senses.

The upper skin the epidermis carry pain nerves that get destroyed in a major burn, the rest of flesh is dermis , that don't have pain nerves....
