Why do we feel the need for conservation more today than our ancestors did

After seeing the worst condition of our country we feel the need of conservation.

there is increasing population and very less amount of ingredients or materials.the amount of things we waste today,comparitevly less was wasted in the time of ancestors.so there was less need of conservation then.
