Names are here to differentiate and clarify our identities by something external than our physical and mental traits. It is a way to organize everyone by paper.

If we didn’t have names it will be very chaotic. How you will refer to a friend when you are in group? How you will call someone in phone? How can you speak about someone if the listener doesn’t know about who you are speaking?

Now names is becoming part of who we are. The first thing you tell to someone you just met is your name. When people think about someone they associate the name with the whole image of the other person. It is for us something more than a simple word.

Answer:

Humans have a deep-seated need to name and be named, and researchers have long acknowledged that there is great power in naming things. We name to identify, symbolize, refer, describe, simplify, organize and, most importantly, to tame. When you tame something, you do so to bring it closer.
