People follow old traditions when they are resistant to change: People of the previous generation (parents, grandparents) tend to prefer their lifestyles when they were younger, and find it difficult to adapt to the new traditions of the changing world.
Another reason could be out of patriotism or love of culture, thus willing to follow old tradition to keep them alive and the culture unique.
