In a very simple terms you can think it as an object that serves as a seemingly infinite reservoir of electrons; the ground is capable of transferring electrons to or receiving electrons from a charged object in order to neutralize that object

mishel50: me studying in class 12
mishel50: basically you know there are 2 charges positive and negative
kanishk135: yes
kanishk135: i know
mishel50: When we touch a charged object, our body conducts its charges to the earth. That is why a charged body loses its charge, if we touch it with our hand. This phenomenon is known as electric discharge.
kanishk135: thanks
mishel50: charge it means it has accumulated electrons to provide -ve charge or lack of electrons to provide + be charge . Now if suppose a body has free electrons on its surface when u touch it the electrons will be attracted towards ur hand because there is a potential difference present as the surface has free electrons and ur hand does not . The transfer of electron will take place until the physical state of equilibrium is achieved in electrostatic potential .
mishel50: hope this will help you
mishel50: all the best
kanishk135: thanks for it
