Why does a driver accelerates when climbing up a hill?

Hello !!
Its because of gravity. On the uphill you are going against gravity and hence to over come the gravitational force you have to apply external force. To apply the force you accelerate.
Now when on downhill you are going in the direction of gravity pull. So to control the vehicle brakes have to applied or else the vehicle will go out of control and may cause an accident.
