Hello friend

Pole vault jumpers land on thick mats of foam because the mats act as a cushioning for the atlhetes to land on when they are done with their jumps.. If there was no mat, the atlethe's body on contacting with the ground would instantaneously come to rest thus resulting in them hurting themselves. But a mat acts as a cushioning and reduces the chances of the athlete injuring themselves.

Hope it helps u...

THE ANSWER IS

POLE VAULT JUMPERS LAND ON A THICK MATS OF FOAM BECAUSE THE MATS ACT AS CUSHIONING FOR THE ATHELETES TO LAND

ON WHEN THEY ARE DONE WITH THEIR JUMP BUT MATS ACT ON CUSHIONING AND REDUCES THE CHANGES OF THE ATHELETES INJURING THEMSELVES
