Why does dust fly off when a carpet is hit with a stick ? Explain.

bcoz the particles on carpet tent to remain at rest but due to the force exerted it will show inertia of rest

when the carpet is beaten with a stick both the particles of dust beneath it and the carpet comes in motion , but the particles of dust tries to retain its rest position as earlier due to inertia of rest......thus it flies off
