Why does earthwarm come out during rainy season

An earthworms breathes oxygen by absorbing it through its moist skin. Its like damp soil, but if the rain is very heavy, the oxygen in the water logged soil may run out . Then the worms has to come up to breathes air . On top of the wet ground, the worms can breathe and wriggle along . Therefore, earthworms come out during the rainy season.
