Why does equatorial countercurrent originate

Equatorial counter current is the result of pilling up of water by the north equatorial current and south equatorial current on the western side of the oceans.

Explanation:

This pilling up of water create slope from west to east and the warm surface water pilled up on western side of ocean starts moving from west to east.
