gravity streches spacetime. Hence a photon will have more distance to travel and distance between any periodic interval increases. this applies for any massive objects.A clock near a massive body will be slower than a normal clock. This phenomenon is called gravitational time dilation.

Think of space as one of those “flat escalators” to move more quickly around airports, but somehow made of elastic rubber. The belt moves at a rate which we will call the speed of light. And think that the belt is moving from the black hole to its surrounding. Well, the black hole is pulling the belt towards it, and because it’s elastic, it stretches it. At the event horizon distance, the pull of the black hole stretch precisely equals the speed with which the belt is moving to the outside.as spacetime is stretched or distorted and Time, as it becomes stretched, can be looked at as distorted. A “stretched minute” is still a minute, but when compared to an unstretched minute, it is longer.
