Answer:

Dry HCL it does not dissociate to give H+ ions. Acids dissociate to give ions only in the aqueous solution.

Explanation:

In this, HCL is not in the aqueous form nor the litmus paper is wet, so the colour of the litmus paper does not change.

Dry HCL does not change colour of dry litmus paper because it has no hydrogen ion , H+ (aq) ions , in it which can impart acidic properties to it.

Know More :-

Acids are those chemical substances which have a sour taste and can conduct electricity.

Acids are two types -

Weak Acid (organic acids) - Those acids which are present naturally in organisms .

ex = Acetic acid in vinegar , citric acid in lemons and oranges, lactic acid in sour milk etc .

Strong Acids ( mineral acid) -

The acids prepared from the minerals of the earth . .

ex = Hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid ,

Nitric acid etc .

Properties of Acids :-

  • Acids have sour taste.

  • Acid turns blue litmus into red.

  • Acids solutions conduct electricity.

  • Acids react with metals to form hydrogen gas .

  • Acids react with metal carbonate to form carbon dioxide gas .

  • Acids react with bases or alkalis to form salt and water .

  • Acids are corrosive in nature.

  • Acids react with metal oxides to form salt and water.
