Because carbon dioxide reacts with lime water to form calcium carbonate which is white in colour

Lime water is Ca(OH)2 when CO2 is added it forms CaCO3 that is calcium carbonate and is white in colour.....
So,on adding CO2 to lime water it appears somewhat milky..
