A period happens because of changes in hormones in the body. Hormones are chemical messengers. The ovaries release the female hormones estrogen and progesterone . These hormones cause the lining of the uterus (or womb) to build up.

The menstruation occurs by the shedding of uterin lining in a female stomach . it occurs in a monthy basis . when the lining of uterin breaks down the waste in our body comes out though vagina . it starts at the age of 11 or 12 and ends in the age of 50 to 55 years ( menopause is the ending stage of a mensttuation ) . This whole process begining from starting stage to the ending stage is known as menstrual cylcle .
