In females, only one egg is released from a single ovary every month. Every month, the uterus prepares itself to receive the embryo in case fertilization occurs. But if fertilization fails to occur, the uterine wall is breaks, so that it can be prepared for the ovary which will be released in the following month. Hence, to discard the unwanted uterine endometrial lining and the egg which is not fertilized, menstruation occurs in human females in a cycle of 28 days.

Urge fir menstruation occurs when urinary bladder comes to have 300-400 ml of urine. The stretched bladder stimulates nerve ending to develop the reflex. However, urine can be retained in the urinary bladder till it gets filled upto maximum capacity,700-800 ml. At this time the urge become painful. Voluntary mincturition can be carried any time. Total amount of urine excreted per day is about 1.6-1.8 liters. The quantity increases with larger intake of fluids and decreases with lesser intake of them.
