Why does micelle formation take place when soap is added to water? Why is soap ineffective for washing in hard water?

because soap contain fatty acid and fatty acids are amphipathic in nature so when fatty acids added to water it arranged themselves stable so they project their hydrophilic end toward outer surface which has contract with water and keep their hydrophobic tail in side of structure such structure called micelle.
