Our mouth get full of saliva before vomiting to prevent the teeth from degrading. Our stomach contains strong acid HCl having a pH of 2.
This acid can damage the outer covering of the teeth which is made of enamel. The enamel can get eroded if it is exposed to an acidic environment.
So to avoid this, the salivary glands produce saliva which is alkaline in nature to neutralise the effect of the acid.
