Because some chemicals and medicines decompose in the presence of light .So in order to protect it , they are stored in coloured bottles. This is because some chemicals are photosensitive meaning that they break down when exposed to light.

Some liquid medicines are kept in dark coloured bottles because, some liquid medicines can react to the light  but, when they are stored in coloured bottles then the coloured bottles help to prevent the medicine to come in contact with the medicine. The coloured bottle act as an outer covering and also helps in the prevention of reactions which may take place between the medicine and light.
