Sun rays contain seven colours out of which red colour has got the highest wavelength and thus it is not scattered away by the atmosphere and reach the other colours like blue etc get scattered way .Thus it becomes reddish.

Sun appears reddish early in the morning due to:

First we have to know the following two terms:

1. Horizon: It is the ‘line or circle’ which forms an apparent boundary between the Earth and sky.

2. Scattering: It is a physical process where the radiations like light, sound etc are forced to deviate its travel straight path.

Now, in the morning Sun is very near to horizon. So, sunlight nears the horizon which passes through thick layers of air and through the larger distance of atmosphere. Hence, most of blue light is scattered away and longer wavelengths reach our eyes which gives reddish colour of sun.
