Why does the ball rolling on a smooth floor stop after covering some distance.​

rolling ball stops after moving some distance due to friction force act opposite direction of motion of ball . you can see in figure .

Let any rolling ball of mass (m ) is moving with velocity v ,

normal reaction on ball (N) = mg

due to motion , friction force appears on contact surface and start to opposing motion of rolling ball .

hence,

fr = uN = umg act on contacting surface, so, after some time due to friction force rolling ball comes rest .

This is because the force of friction is acting against it and hence stops the ball
