Why does the Colonel buy a house with a ghost?

When he bought the house he didn't knew that there was a ghost. When the housekeeper told them that there is a ghost, they said to her very politely that we are not afraid of ghosts. Even though there family scared the ghost each and every time the ghost tried to make the family scared of him but every time the family scared him.
