All the work of converging incoming light is not done by eye lens because most of the light convergence is already done by cornea.

Cornea is a part of eye, whose diameter measures 12 mm horizontally, and the vertical measurement of diameter is 11mm.

Cornea functions by providing 75% of the focusing power of the eye. Most of the eye defects like long sightedness, short sightedness are due to problems in cornea.
