why does the filament of an electric circuit get white hot,but not the connecting wires?????

Hi, first of all the filament consists of twist and turn through which the resistance of the wire increases and the electrical energy is transformed into heat energy and the filament gets hot whereas the connecting wires are made to conduct electricity and of lower resistance and thus don't become hot.
