Why does the length the tail of a comet increase while coming towards the sun

The length of tail of comet increases because when the comet comes towards the earth(from sun), the condensed gases in comet evaporate as sublimation rate becomes high and other gases also evaporate. Thus the length of gaseous tail of comet increases while coming to sun.
