Why does the narrator say, “I landed and was not sorry to walk away from the old Dakota…”?

The pilot was delighted to land safely after being caught in a dense storm of dark clouds and was not sorry to walk away from the old Dakota. He was filled with gratitude for the pilot in the other black aeroplane and desperately wanted to thank him for helping him in such a fearsome situation. He was indeed feeling sorry that he could not thank his benefactor enough for helping him land on the runway safely.

The narrator had a terrible experience flying that old plane. Moreover, he couldn't settle himself after the scary flight. He was much relieved after the plane landed. Hence, he said that he was not sorry to walk away from the old Dakota.

He was delighted to land safely out of dark stormy clouds, so, he was not sorry to walk away from his plane. He felt bad, when he was no able to thank his guide, who guided and saved him from that frightening situation, but he was so happy after landing that he didn't feel sorry for not being able to thank the guide pilot.
