The insectivorous plants grow in a soil which does not contain nitrogen mineral. These plants (eg. pitcher plant) contains chlorophyll and hence carry out photosynthesis to obtain their food. But they do not get nitrogen from the soil. So they feed on insects to obtain nitrogen required for their growth.

Hope it helps!!
