Rainfall decreases from the east to the west in Northern India because there is a decrease in the moisture content of the winds. ... Consequently, states like Gujarat and Rajasthan in western India get very little rainfall.

The rainfall decreases from east to west in Northern India because the Bay of Bengal branch of south west monsoon moves towards north east carrying more moisture and give heavy rainfall in this region. As they move further towards west, they carry less moisture content with themselves resulting in a decrease in rainfall in the west.
