Why does the temprature remain constant during the melting of ice even though heat is supplied continuously?

The heat supplied is latent heat...it is only needed for phase change..it doesn't change the temperature of the body

The heat get trapped in the interstitial sites and it's the latent heat which is required for phase change rather than increasing the temperature !

When we supply heat to ice, its kinetic energy increases due to which its temperature also increases. But, at its melting point the heat we supply is used to break it's force of attraction between its particles and the kinetic energy does not increases only it's potential energy increases. That's why it's temperature remains constant at its melting point.
