why does water wet glass, whereas mercury does not?

because the density of mercury is much more than that of water... so it doesn't wet glass like water..

because water molecules are cohesive in nature which is due to weak hydrogen bond between them so they easily dissociate and form new bond with other surfacea whereas mercury don't have this property so it does not wet the glass
