• This decreases humidity in the wind. Consequently, these winds generate less rainfall at the Eastern side of the Western Ghats. By the time the winds reaches Rajasthan, Gujarat, the shielded side of the 'Western Ghats', the Deccan plateau and the Sahyadris they lose their moisture and very little rain falls. This decreased rainfall of mountains is known as 'rain shadow effect'.
