Why dry solution of Hcl cannot show acidic properties.

Please answer in detail.

Acids are those substances which give H+ or H3O+ ions IN WATER...HCl gives H+ or H3O+ ions i.e. it behaves like an acid only when it is in aqueous form whereas dry HCl, as is evident from the name...........is not aqueous therefore dry HCl does not show acidic properties
