It came as a nomenclature by generations hence we call it as X-axis…
Like we say O-circle, .-point…These are just accepted…
You can even name that horizontal line as Rohitash-axis, but you need it to get into public acceptance…
There should be no issue with that..

Horizontal line is a straight line drawn from left to right, parallel to the x-axis of the coordinate plane. The slope of a horizontal line is zero. Any point on the y-axis can have a line drawn through it parallel to the x-axis, and is said to be horizontal line.
