Why India stands in the medium HD Groups countries?

India is in the medium category when it comes to the Human Development Indicators. The biggest reason for India's low ranking is the low level of schooling.
There is no excuse for why India's "mean years of schooling" or in other words how long does an average Indian kid stay in school is barely more than 4 years. Even Sri Lanka's is over 10 and in most of the developed world it is well above 12.
With such a low level of schooling rate, it is not easy to get Indians ready for the global economy and that translates into low incomes. And the schooling rate is especially low for the girls and that translates into poorly educated mothers who can neither survive long nor can easily raise healthy citizens. Add poor health and low incomes to the low education and you can see the reason for India's low HDI.
If India can just manage to keep kids in school for 12 years, India's ratings in a variety of indicators would shoot up through the roof. This is not rocket science - nearly a hundred countries have done that and doesn't really require an out of the box thinking. If India can get those basics right, then the nation's strengths in other sectors can really push up to the dream of a developed nation.
