why inner membrane of mitochondria is deeply folded???

The inner membrane known as the Cristae is folded. The folds of the inner membrane or the Cristae provide an increase in the Surface Area which gives the Mitochondrion more locations for ATP( the energy currency) production to occur.

inner membrane is deeply folded because it will create large surface area to absorb nutrients
