The Deccan Plateau is the largest plateau in Western and Southern India. It elevates to 100 metres (330 ft) in the North, and to more than 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) in the South. The plateau is located between two mountain ranges, the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats.
The Western Ghats range stands very tall as a result it blocks the moisture from the southwest monsoon from reaching the Deccan Plateau, as a result it receives very little rainfall.
