This energy is in movement till it is dissipated. Lets take two rocks a warm Rock and a cold Rock. When these two rocks are touching, the area of contact transfers Heat "energy" from the hotter to the colder. When these two rocks are separated, The hotter will still transfer heat to the colder through evection "radiation". this heat transfer occurs mostly in the infra-red spectrum. The transfer of heat through evection will occur even without atmosphere. for instance should the two rocks be launched into orbit out of the atmosphere the hotter rock will still transfer energy to the colder rock through evection.medium is required for conduction of heat because heat passes from one molecule to another molecule of the medium..the molecule starts to vibrate because of the pressure of heat and the vibration is passed from one molecule 2 another.
