Why is a penumbra not obtained from
a point source?​

We do not obtain penumbra from a point source because all the light rays falling on the shadowing object are completely blocked by it.

Answer:

Penumbra is not obtained from point source because scattering of light emerging from a point source does not takes place .Thus, only dark shadow of the object placed in )front of the point source is obtained. The shadow obtained from a point is mainly called Umbra .

Umbra - Dark part of the shadow.

Penumbra - Light part of the shadow.
